A380 engine blow out cost Rolls-Royce US$90 million

The high-publicised failure of one of the Trent 900 engine aboard a Qantas A380 last year cost Rolls-Royce GBP56 million (US$90 million), the engine-maker said yesterday in a statement to announce its 2010 results. The incident severely impacted the group’s net profit, which fell 73% to GBP480 million. The company’s revenue however, increased 6% GBP11.1 billion. The company noted that it has invested more than GBP4 billion in facilities, IT, training and product development in an effort to facilitate growth over the next 30 years.
