Accor has expanded into the far northwest of China, with the launch of its first ever hotel in Urumqi.
The company’s move in the capital of China’s Xinjiang region was enabled by Accor’s upscale Grand Mercure Mei Jue brand, while is tailored specifically to the needs of the Chinese market. As such, the Grand Mercure Urumqi Hualing offers a Chinese restaurant serving Cantonese and local Xinjiang dishes, tai chi sessions and a tea lounge in the lobby.
The hotel’s 250 rooms and suites all come with large LED TVs with satellite channels and high-speed internet access, while property facilities include a fitness centre, outdoor tennis court, snooker room, spa and 15th floor club lounge. There is also a 512m² ballroom and four meeting rooms for the MICE market.
“We are delighted to introduce Grand Mercure Mei Jue brand to Urumqi,” said Paul Richardson, chief operating officer of Accor Greater China. “The opening of Grand Mercure Urumqi Hualing will offer a new option for guests who look for memorable hotel experiences. The hotel incorporates Accor’s internationally recognised hospitality expertise with authentic local cultural elements that will appeal to Chinese and international travellers,” he added.
Located in the centre of Urumqi, Grand Mercure Urumqi Hualing becomes the 13th Grand Mercure Mei Jue property in China, with a further 15 in the pipeline.
