Accor has made a major new move into the Indian MICE sector with the signing of a management agreement for the Jaipur Exhibition & Convention Centre (JECC) – South Asia’s biggest event facility.
The brand new JECC, which has been developed by the Dangayach-Derewala Group, is spread over 17 hectares and includes two exhibition halls with a combined floor space of 20,000m², plus an open exhibition area of 10,000m². In addition, the JECC has a 1,200-seat convention centre, 20 meeting rooms, pre-function areas, registration counters, interpretation booths, an outdoor event lawn and parking for 4,000 cars.
The centre, which is located just 5km from the Jaipur International Airport, will also be attached to a new 241-room Novotel.
“Accor’s appointment to manage JECC is a reflection of the group’s experience in managing major conference and exhibition facilities across India,” said Jean-Michel Cassé, senior vice president of Accor India.
“In India, we have been the pioneer in the field of convention centres, through the Hyderabad International Convention Centre and the Lavasa International Convention Centre and Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach. We look forward to playing our part and working with Dangayach-Derewala Group in managing JECC and in turn, put Jaipur on the map as a national and international destination for exhibitions, conferences and events,” he added.
The JECC is already operational and hosted its first major event – the International Stone Industry Exhibition – in January 2015. The new Novotel will welcome its first guests in 2016, becoming Accor’s second hotel in Jaipur following the existing 140-room ibis.
Accor now manages convention and exhibition space in the Middle East, Asia Pacific and Europe.
