Airports Council International (ACI) has launched a new safety campaign in Jakarta.
The industry body signed a Declaration of Commitment & Collaboration in Airport Excellence (APEX) in Safety with Indonesia’s state-run airport operator, PT Angkasa Pura II in Jakarta yesterday, thereby launching the APEX in Safety programme in Asia Pacific.
The new scheme is designed to help airports identify and address safety issues, based on the ICAO principles sharing data and best practices.
A team of safety experts from ACI and ICAO, as well as other airport operators, will spend the next two weeks at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to identify safety issues and recommend rectification measures.
“I would like to thank PT Angkasa Pura II, all the safety partners and ICAO for their contribution to make this project possible. The team has spent so much time preparing for this safety review, looking for suitable safety partners, coordinating with all the parties involved and reviewing all the relevant information on Soekarno-Hatta International Airport for the review to go ahead,” said Patti Chau, Regional Director of ACI Asia Pacific.
Tri Suriadjie Sunoko, President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II called the safety review “a great contribution on the part of ACI in the advancement of airport safety for its members”.
“We appreciate very much the effort made by ACI, ICAO and our safety partners to help Soekarno-Hatta Airport improve on safety,” he added.
The review will study safety in a range of operational areas, such as emergency planning, runway management, wildlife control, aircraft refueling, airside vehicle operations, low visibility operations and staff training.
