Kazakhstan’s national carrier has signed a new codeshare agreement with South Korea’s Asiana Airlines.
The new deal will see the two carriers team up on a total of five weekly flights between Kazakhstan’s largest city Almaty and the Korean capital Seoul. But both airlines intend to expand the agreement to cover routes to third countries in future.
The two airlines’ frequent flyers will also be able to earn points on the codeshare flights operated by both carriers.
“In recent years, political, business, financial and cultural co-operation between Kazakhstan and South Korea has grown tremendously, with traffic on the route between Almaty and Seoul growing by nearly 50%,” said Peter Foster, president of Air Astana.
“I am confident that the agreement reached today will allow both airlines to enter a new phase of development and provide our respective passengers with a full range of benefits on the extended route network.”
Air Astana and Asiana have agreed to meet and discuss their operations at the AAPA Assembly of Presidents in Tokyo this November.
