Air New Zealand is celebrating a new record full-year profit.
The national carrier generated a pre-tax profit of NZ$496 million (US$323m) for the 2014-15 financial year, up 49% compared to the previous 12-month period, as lower fuel costs and higher revenues improved the airline’s bottom line.
Net profits rose 24% to NZ$327m, while revenues increased 5.9% to NZ$4.9 billion. This included NZ$4.1bn in passenger revenues, up 6.8% year-on-year.
Christopher Luxon, CEO of Air New Zealand, said his company has achieved a “terrific 2015 financial year”, as his strategies had started to see results.
“We remain focused on the Pacific Rim as our growth strategy and will continue to provide the best connections, product and service at competitive prices, to maintain and grow our market share in these regions,” said Luxon.
“Next year will see further capacity growth in international markets as we look forward to new routes starting in December 2015 to Houston and Buenos Aires. And while we are gearing up to launch these exciting new routes we have a team assessing potential new opportunities in Australia, Asia and the Americas.”
Luxon added that Air New Zealand has spent “considerable time and effort” enhancing the passenger experience, both on the ground and in-flight.
“This has resulted in a further lift in customer satisfaction including amongst our most frequent flyers, and has seen the airline receive many awards in the past year,” he said.
Air New Zealand started operating its new fleet fuel-efficient Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners at the start of the 2014-15 financial year, becoming the launch customer for the aircraft. The airline now operates four of these 302-seat long-haul jets, with four more still to come.
