AirAsia has taken a significant step forward in its efforts to connect Johor, Malaysia’s southernmost state, by announcing a new direct flight from mainland China.
Commencing on 29 May 2016, AirAsia will operate daily direct flights between Johor’s Senai International Airport and Guangzhou. Flights will depart Johor at 2200 and arrive in Guangzhou at 0200. The return services then leave the Chinese city at 0300 and arrive back in Johor at 0650. AirAsia will operate an all-economy class Airbus A320 aircraft on the route.
“Our southern hub of Johor Bahru is one of the key development points for us this year, and we are pleased to be connecting the rapidly developing Johor Bahru to Guangzhou,” said Spencer Lee, AirAsia’s head of commercial.
“This will further increase our market share in Johor Bahru, and we look forward to working closely with all key industry players here to grow Johor Bahru together.”
China will become the fourth country to which AirAsia flies from Johor, following Indonesia (Bandung, Yogyakarta and Surabaya), Thailand (Bangkok and Hat Yai) and Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City).
And the Johor-Guangzhou service will become the airline’s 17th route into China from Malaysia, and the second launched this year following Kuala Lumpur-Shantou.
