Every river in the Central Java region has dangerously high levels of pollutants, including manure, human feces and industrial waste, a report from the province’s Environmental Agency has warned. According to the Jakarta Post, agency head Djoko Sutrisno said that much of the water would not now be treated and turned into drinking water, as water companies were unable to remove the iron content polluting the water.
“Waste processing facilities are required in order to prevent factories from polluting the rivers,” Sutrisno was quoted saying.
