Amadeus has said it hopes to replicate the success of its Altea products for airlines within the rail industry with a new community platform.
The travel technology company has announced its first partners for the new IT platform within its Total Rail tool where shopping, booking, ticketing, schedules, fares and inventory all feature under one system.
Amadeus will act as a third party to develop and host applications for several rail companies, aiming to cover the end-to-end process for rail travel in Europe.
Luxembourg rail company CFL is one of the partners along with BeNe Rail International (BeNe RI), a joint sales and distribution system set up by Belgian train operator NMBS/SNCB and Dutch firm NS.
Partners will still be able to control their multi-channel distribution strategies similarly to its Altea product for airlines.
“Amadeus has been very successful with its Altéa suite of solutions co-developed for airlines with launch partners and we are confident that this success will be replicated in the rail industry. We are very proud to power BeNe Rail’s IT and distribution platform, which ultimately reinforces our commitment to become a major IT partner to the rail industry,” said Thomas Drexler, director rail and ground travel at Amadeus.
Arnold De Brauwer, president, BeNe RI said: “Amadeus’ rail community IT platform will open new horizons for us as we strive to strengthen our multi-channel and multi-carrier distribution with bolstered rail content provided by our partner carriers.
