Travel technology company Amadeus has joined the European Commisson’s (EC) Low Season Tourism initiative to generate more travel from Europe across the world.
The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the EC in its initial stages to target travel to South America, before extending it to other regions.
As its name suggests, the initiative aims to increase travel during off-peak periods and boost airline and accommodation occupancy. It will approach travel agencies, tour operators and airlines to package relevant holidays for the scheme, starting with those to Brazil, Argentina and Chile.
“Amadeus is pleased to support the European Commission and the travel and tourism sector by offering our technology, extensive knowledge and established relations with industry leading players worldwide to make this programme successful”, said Luis Maroto, president and CEO for Amadeus IT Group.
British Airways, Lufthansa, Iberia, Air France, Alitalia and TAP Portugal have also collaborated in the initiative alongside the European Tour Operators Association (ETOA) and the European Travel Agents’ and Tour Operators’ Associations (ECTAA).
