Amari forms ONYX Hospitality Group

Guest Writer

Amari, Thailand’s leading domestic hotel management company today announced the formation of a new corporate structure with the creation of ONYX Hospitality Group, a new management company. This strategic development allows the company to pursue its previously announced expansion plans, moving beyond Thailand to pursue hospitality management opportunities in the Asia Pacific and Arabian Gulf regions.

At the same time, ONYX Hospitality Group also announced the launch of two new hotel brands: a luxury brand, Saffron and a select services offering named Ozo. These will complement the established mid to upscale Amari brand which underwent a significant revitalisation programme in October 2009.

Jointly announcing this development, Mr. Yuthachai Charanachitta, Owner of ONYX, commented: “We will be investing USD$44.1 million in a corporate growth strategy which will see new properties introduced across the portfolio of brands. We want to position ONYX as a market leader in hospitality management in the Asia Pacific region.”

Chief Executive Officer, Peter Henley added: “Recognising the competitiveness in today’s hospitality industry, we realised that to maintain and develop our position we needed to create a long-term plan to take the company forward.”

“ONYX has been introduced as a platform for us to provide hotel owners and developers with a broader choice of hotel brands as well as a range of hospitality management services. The brands are individually distinctive yet complementary in terms of positioning and value and are based on traditional Asian hospitality excellence.”

ONYX’s international luxury offering is a fresh new brand born out of cultured sophistication, yet modern and innovative in concept.

Already under construction and scheduled to open its doors in 2011, the first property in the Saffron portfolio will be named the Oriental Residence Bangkok. Located in the popular downtown area of Wireless Road, the iconic development will include privately-owned condominiums as well as 145 luxurious serviced apartments.

The centrepiece of the ONYX portfolio, Amari was relaunched in late 2009 to reflect the colours and rhythms of modern Asian hospitality, catering to both leisure and business travellers and embodying Asian flair, modern perspective and a down-to-earth vibe.

There are currently 11 Amari properties in key tourism destinations throughout Thailand including Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi and Koh Chang.

In September 2010, the opening of Amari Residences Bangkok will fully showcase the group’s revitalised brand positioning. Located adjacent to the Bangkok Hospital, the 128-room Amari Residences Bangkok will target short and long term visitors, especially those visiting the city for medical treatments.

Amari Hua Hin, opening in 2012, will be the group’s first resort in this popular Thai seaside town located approximately 200km south of Bangkok. Set on 7.5 acres, Amari Hua Hin will offer 223 rooms and suites as part of a mixed use development project that will also feature luxury condominiums.

This new hotel brand will offer a fresh take on select services for both business and leisure travellers. Exteriors that wow, interiors abuzz with activity, decors awash with local colour and well-thought out amenities and facilities. A core component of a stay at an Ozo hotel or resort will be the haven of peace within the guestroom, embodied in the Ozo promise - SLEEP. DREAM.

With its three brand portfolio and the capabilities of a truly international management team, ONYX offers innovative hospitality management solutions across the Indian Ocean, Arabian Gulf and Asia- Pacific regions. Stemming from a solid four-decade history of successful hospitality management services, ONYX looks to the future with plans to manage an additional 40 hotels and resorts by 2018.

A strategic development towards achieving this was the recent formation of ONYX India Hospitality Group Pvt Ltd, a joint venture partnership with well-known Indian hospitality professional, Mandeep S Lamba.

This new partnership provides ONYX with an established and dedicated network of tourism industry resources in India and a wealth of localised hospitality expertise. This will more readily enable ONYX to expand and service owners in this strategically important market.

ONYX fully anticipates further announcements to be made throughout the course of 2010.
