American Airlines has unveiled a major new initiative to revamp its airport lounges, including a new high-end dining concept.
As part of a multi-million dollar project, American will initially introduce a new ‘Flagship Lounge’ experience at six US airports. The airline says the lounges will be “larger and ultra-modern” with new furniture, extra power outlets and new F&B concepts. Flagship Lounges will be offered at New York JFK, Los Angeles, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami and Philadelphia airports.
And the airline is also launching a new ‘Flagship Dining’ concept (pictured top), which it said it will offer premium passengers a “five-star restaurant experience when they travel”. Scheduled to debut at JFK Airport in early 2017, Flagship Dining will offer complimentary, full-service table dining, with seasonal menus based on locally-sourced ingredients.
The concept will then be rolled out to other destinations to which American’s three-class Boeing 777-300ER aircraft fly, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles and Miami. Each Flagship Dining lounge will employ its own executive chef.
All first and business class passengers booked on trans-Pacific, trans-Atlantic, deep South American and Airbus A321 transcontinental aircraft will have access to the Flagship services from 2017.
“We’re investing more than US$3 billion in every aspect of the travel experience… because we want customers to choose American Airlines every time they fly,” said Andrew Nocella, American’s chief marketing officer.
“Flagship Dining is something no other US carrier has offered, and this separates us from the competition. It makes American a clear choice for the customers who expect a refined, personal touch when they fly.”
In addition to the launch of the Flagship Lounges, the airline’s existing Admirals Club Lounges will continue to be upgraded. Fifteen lounges are scheduled for renovation over the next few years and new locations will be opened at Houston George Bush and Orlando airports. The first revamped Admiral Club Lounges are now open at Sao Paulo Guarulhos and Phoenix Sky Harbor airports.
And finally, American will upgrade its Arrivals Lounge at London Heathrow Airport with new showers, F&B and valet pressing services.
