American Airlines has confirmed that it will launch direct flights between Shanghai and Dallas this summer.
Commencing on 11 June 2014, the new service will become the first direct connection between Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). The flights, which are now open for sale, will operate daily using a Boeing 777-200 aircraft.
Services will depart DFW at 1055 and arrive at Pudong at 1455 the following day. The return service will leave Shanghai at 1650, arriving back into the Texas hub at 1810.
“The Asia Pacific region continues to grow as a key market for international commerce, and we wish to thank the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for providing us with the airport departure and landing time slots to begin service in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Shanghai market,” said Scott Kirby, president of American Airlines.
“By launching this service, we can now offer our customers nonstop access between two premier gateway destinations while also providing customers one-stop connections through Dallas-Fort Worth to destinations throughout Latin America and North America.”
The new route will be operated as part of American’s joint venture with oneworld alliance partner, Japan Airlines, and complements American’s existing flights to Shanghai from Los Angeles and Chicago.
The launch of the new Shanghai-Dallas service will also coincide with the start of another new route connecting Dallas and Hong Kong.
