The travel industry has been encouraged to help define new apprenticeship standards after the government extended the deadline for suggestions.
A group led by BCD Travel and managed by People 1st is looking to work with more businesses on what they believe the standards should entail, with the government allowing for more time for the retail industry to put ideas forward.
The group’s standards will now be available until 30 September for consultation ahead of going to government.
Companies to have already been involved include ABTA, Hillgate Travel, HolidayBreak, PGL, Spa Travel, Thomas Cook, TUI, Capita, Giles Travel and Co-operative Travel Management.
Annette Allmark, director of strategic policy at People 1st said: “The trailblazer group will continue to look at these standards to make sure that they meet businesses needs across the entire industry, especially around the IT, maths and geography aspects of the standards, and they will be available on the People 1st website to review for anyone interested.
It’s important that people take part, as even if they don’t currently employ an apprentice, they can really shape the future of their industry and help learners gain the skills they need in their business.”
