Asian airport traffic continues to climb, surging 7.7% in the first half of 2012.
According to the latest data from Airports Council International (ACI), the region saw a strong 12.3% jump in international passenger traffic in January-June 2012, compared to the same period last year. Domestic traffic grew at a weaker 4.6%.
Japan’s recovering airports, Osaka Kansai and Tokyo Narita, both achieved growth in excess of 20%, while Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport (+14.2%), Singapore Changi and Seoul Incheon (both +11.6%) also saw strong growth.
“Our region went through a challenging year in 2011 and it is encouraging to see a strong rebound in the passenger traffic in the first six months of 2012,” said ACI’s Regional Director for Asia Pacific, Patti Chau. “Driven by the growth in intra-regional and domestic passenger traffic, the region remains resilient to the economic uncertainty that is still looming in other parts of the world.”
