Aussie cabbies offended by English test

Australian cabbies are reportedly angry about being forced to take English tests. The Brisbane Courier Mail reported last week that Queensland’s Transport Ministry has ordered the AU$90 (US$96) online test for all new drivers, regardless of nationality.
“I think it’s ridiculous that English-speaking drivers have to sit the test,” the taxi driver’s union leader, John Rahilly said. “The initial reason for the test was to remedy the problem… whereby many current drivers are not fluent in English.”
A government spokesperson was reported saying that the test was not only for language but also numeracy, writing, reading and listening skills. I’m sure the cabbies will feel much better after hearing that
