British Airways’ new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner touched down in Delhi for the first time this week.
The new 216-seat aircraft is the newest model in BA’s fleet and comes equipped with all four of the airline’s cabin classes, including eight suites in first class, 42 flat-bed seats in business class, 39 seats in premium economy and 127 in economy.
The aircraft received a traditional Indian send off at London’s Heathrow Airport, with models Suki Waterhouse and Neelam Gill donning “lehengas” customised by Indian designer, Rohit Bal, as part of an onboard photo-shoot.
“We are delighted to launch our very first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to New Delhi,” said Robert Williams, BA’s head of sales for Asia Pacific. “It reinforces our strong focus on India as a market, which already enjoys the second largest position for us globally, after the US and outside the UK.
“At British Airways, we are committed to putting the customer at the heart of everything we do, offering the very best in comfort and luxury on board our flights as well as an expansive global network covering more than 179 cities in 75 countries.”
BA has ordered a total of 42 Dreamliners, including eight B787-8s, 22 B787-9s and 12 B787-10s. Future routes for the new B787-9s will include Kuala Lumpur, Austin and San Jose.
