Bali is aiming to welcome as many as 2.8 million international visitors in 2011. Local media reported the Bali Statistical Center (BPS) as saying that the Indonesian resort island is planning to increase its tourism arrivals from 2.57 million in 2010 to 2.6-2.8 million this year - an increase of up to 9% year-on-year. BPS chief, Gede Suarsa, told Bali Post; “[The] target is higher that the 2.57 million foreign visitors achieved in 2010, a number that surpassed the stated target of 2-2.3 million.” Suarsa added that he expected hotel occupancy levels to rise from 61% last year to 65% in 2011.
