Beijing boosts tourism investment

Beijing’s municipal government is planning to invest more than CNY1 billion (US$152 million) into the city’s tourism sector in 2011. Xinhua recently reported Ding Xiangyang, the Chinese capital’s Vice Mayor, as saying that it will establish the Beijing Tourism Development Committee in an effort to coordinate the development of the city’s tourism industry. In 2010, Beijing’s total visitor arrivals increased 10.3% year-on-year to a record 184 million, while tourism revenues climbed 13.3% to CNY27.7 billion - also a new record.
