Boeing has continued to record a strong rise in profits, despite the continued problems experienced with its B787 Dreamliner.
The US planemaker’s commercial aircraft division posted an operating profit of US$2.67 billion in the first half of 2013 – 17% higher than the same period last year. This followed a 7% rise in commercial aircraft deliveries, which reached 306, despite the four-month grounding of the Dreamliner from January to April 2013. The company’s commercial revenues also climbed 7% to US$24.78bn.
“Continued strong core operating performance drove higher earnings, revenue and operating cash flow,” said Boeing chairman, president & CEO, Jim McNerney. “We also further strengthened our market-leading position in commercial airplanes with the successful launch of the 787-10 and US$40bn of new orders.”
And the strong performance led Boeing to raise its full-year 2013 earnings predictions. Boeing now expects to earn between US$83bn and US$86bn – the company earned US$40.7bn in the first half of the year.
