Boeing reported a 13% increase in profits in the first quarter of 2011. The company reported this week that it generated net income of US$586 million in the three months to 31 March, compared to US$519 million in the same period last year. Revenues edged up 2% to US$14.91 billion. The planemaker’s commercial operations didn’t perform quite so well however. Boeing delivered just 104 commercial aircraft in the quarter – four fewer than Q1 2010, with revenues 5% down year-on-year.”We’re off to a good start in an important year for our company,” said Jim McNerney, Boeing Chairman, President & CEO. “We delivered strong operating performance, made significant progress on 787 and 747-8 flight testing, and scored a major win on the U.S. Air Force Tanker program. Our outlook remains positive.”
