Sir Richard Branson’s Caribbean island resort has reopened to guests, two years after it was destroyed by fire.
The Great House on Necker Island, which is the Virgin chief’s private home and part of the Virgin Limited Edition collection, has been rebuilt following the 2011 blaze. It now features eight guest rooms including the 139m² Master Suite, which comes fitted with a two-person jacuzzi and an outdoor bath.
Other facilities at the Great House include an outdoor terrace with hammocks and sofas, a large communal dining table, and a zip-line that transports guests down to the beach.
“Necker Island has been my home for more than 30 years and for me it is the most beautiful place in the world. The brand new Great House is the heart of the island and I’m thrilled with the results. This signals a new dawn for Necker, which I’m very excited about,” said Branson.
Located in the British Virgin Islands, the Great House burned down in 2011 after it was struck by lightning. Actress Kate Winslet, who was staying in the house at the time, was hailed as a hero for carrying Branson’s elderly mother to safety.
