One of Japan’s bullet trains is thought to have been washed away when the tsunami hit the country’s northeast coast on Friday. The service was carrying approximately 400 people. Bullet trains on the east coast line between Tokyo and Aomori were immediately suspended after the quake hit, but not soon enough save to help the 300kph train, which is believed to have been engulfed by the 10-metre wave. The incident brings back chilling memories of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, when a passenger train was washed away in Sri Lanka. When contacted by TDA, East Japan Railway Co declined to comment.
