China’s railways handled more than 7.1 million passengers on Saturday, setting a new daily record, Xinhua reported the country’s Ministry of Railways as saying yesterday. The figure, which was 16% higher the corresponding day last year, came as Chinese residents celebrated the Lantern Festival, which is considered the last day of the Spring Festival season. The 40-day Spring Festival period marks the largest human migration in the world, as China’s estimated 1.3 billion population make an average of more than two trips per person.
