Carnival Corp has announced that Tracy Wilson Mourning, the founder of Honey Shine mentoring programme will be the godmother of the firm’s new ship, Carnival Breeze.
The charity, which was founded in 2002, pairs young girls with female community role models, giving them “classroom training, spiritual education and collaborative experiences,” according to a company release.
Mourning will be present at the official ceremony in Miami on 8 December to name the 130,000GT at its PortMiami homeport.
“Tracy is a hero in our community and with Miami serving as our headquarters since our inception 40 years ago, I can think of no better choice as godmother of the new Carnival Breeze,” said Gerry Cahill, Carnival president and CEO. “Tracy’s passion, commitment to serving others and desire to help make South Florida a better place is extraordinary and we are proud and honored that her name will be forever associated with this magnificent ship.”
Mourning herself added: “I am honored to serve as godmother to the Carnival Breeze. The Honey Shine mentoring programme continues to be a vital part of our community thanks to the generosity and commitment by companies like Carnival Cruise Lines.”
The ship will depart for a special two-day cruise on 22-24 November before commencing its programme of six and day Caribbean cruises.
