Cathay carries 31.6m passengers in 2014

Cathay Pacific and its sister carrier Dragonair handled a total of 31.57 million passengers in 2014, 5.5% more than the previous year.
According to the company’s full-year data, the number of flights operated by the two airlines increased 5.0% to 75,451, while aircraft operated with an average of 83.3% of seats filled – 1.1 percentage points more than in 2013.
The strongest growth in 2014 was seen on routes to and from North America (+15.5%, in terms of revenue passenger kilometres), Northeast Asia (+10.2%) and Oceania & South Africa (+8.6%). Traffic on routes to and from mainland China increased 2.2%, while Southeast Asian traffic rose 3.3%.
The rise in Cathay’s traffic almost mirrors the increase in passenger numbers experienced by Hong Kong International Airport in 2014. Cathay’s home base handled a record 63.38m passengers last year, up 5.8% compared to 2013.
