Chinese authorities have closed Tibet to foreign tourists ahead of the third anniversary of anti-government protests, reports from the region have suggested. A travel agent from the Xizang Tourist General Company told AFP that the region’s tourism bureau is denying permission for foreign tourists to visit the Tibet in March. The Tibetan capital, Lhasa, saw a wave of violent anti-government riots in March 2008, leading to the region being closed to international travel for more than a year. China has ruled Tibet since 1951.
