China Southern Airlines has appointed Sydney-based MG Media Communications to handle its public relations in Australia and New Zealand.
Guangzhou-based China Southern is China’s biggest airline in terms of passenger numbers, and the sixth largest in the world. It began services to Australia in 2000 and now offers direct twice daily flights to Sydney, daily direct services to Melbourne (daily), and three weekly flights to both Auckland and Brisbane. Flights to Perth are expected to launch in late 2011.
China Southern’s Regional General Manager for Australia & New Zealand, Henry He said the airline was planning a four-fold increase in capacity to Australia within the next three years.
“Australia is one of our fastest-growing markets because of the key role the country is playing in China’s energy and resources boom and because tourism between our two countries is growing at an unprecedented rate,” He said.
“To fill our new flights between Australia and our main hubs of Beijing and Guangzhou we are broadening China Southern’s appeal beyond the business and VFR markets to leisure, events and group travel.
“Our main pitch for Australia and New Zealand is three-fold – fares that are up to 30 per cent cheaper, greater frequency and quicker access to Guangzhou, our main hub and the capital of China’s fastest growing economic and shopping zone on the Pearl River Delta an easy train ride from Hong Kong and Macau.
“We have also appointed the Sydney-based strategic marketing company Design Strategy to work with us to identify and develop our marketing for the region.
“As specialists in tourism and travel we are pleased to welcome MG Media Communications and Design Strategy to our team to broaden our marketing thrust into the trade and mainstream media,” He added.
