China Southern Airlines has applied for permission to launch flights connecting Guangzhou with Toronto.
The airline has submitted an application with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), and if approved, the new daily service will commence in July 2016. China Southern will operate the trans-Pacific route using a 309-seat, four-class Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
Toronto will become China Southern’s second destination in Canada and its fifth in North America, following Los Angeles, Vancouver, New York and San Francisco.
Several other Chinese airlines are planning to expand in Canada this year. These include the first ever trans-Pacific flights for Tianjin Airlines, which is expected to fly Chongqing-Tianjin-Vancouver from June 2016, Xiamen Airlines, which will fly Xiamen-Vancouver from July 2016, and Beijing Capital Airlines, which is planning to launch Hangzhou-Qingdao-Vancouver in November 2016.
