China Southern Airlines plans to expand its route map in Europe later this year, with the launch of flights to Vienna.
The Guangzhou-based airline has submitted an application with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for permission to launch three weekly flights from its home base to the Austrian capital, via Urumqi, the capital of northwest China’s Xinjiang region.
If approved, flights could commence as early as December 2016. China Southern plans to deploy a Boeing 777-300ER, B787 Dreamliner or Airbus A330 aircraft on the route.
China Southern will become a third carrier linking Vienna with China, following Air China (from Beijing) and Austrian Airlines (from Beijing and Shanghai).
