China Southern Airlines launched its first flight to Adelaide this week.
The Guangzhou-based airline touched down in the Australian city on 13 December, marking mainland China’s first ever direct link with Adelaide and China Southern’s sixth Australian route, following existing services from Guangzhou to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and from Shenzhen to Sydney.
The new flights will operate three times a week, departing Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 2210 and arriving in Adelaide at 0930 the next day. The return flights leave every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 1100 and get back to Guangzhou at 1805. China Southern will deploy its 216-seat, three-class Airbus A330-200 aircraft on the route.
China Southern carried 866,000 people between mainland China and Australia in 2015, giving it a market share of more than 30%. With the launch of Adelaide route, the carrier now operates 112 weekly flights to and from Australia – the most of any airline.
