China Southern’s newest Airbus A330 aircraft touched down in Sydney for the first time this morning (Thursday 11 July 2013), continuing a major upgrade of the fleet operating on the airline’s Australian network.
The new A330-300 aircraft, which flew in direct from Guangzhou on Thursday morning, comes equipped with 30 flat-bed seats in business class, 48 seats in premium economy and 197 in economy, all with personal in-flight entertainment systems.
The Sydney deployment follows the introduction of China Southern’s latest A330-200 aircraft on routes to Brisbane and Perth earlier this year.
And the fleet modernisation programme will continue from 28 October this year, when another new A330-300 starts operating on the Guangzhou-Melbourne route and China Southern’s flagship A380 aircraft is deployed on the Sydney service.
China Southern is marketing itself as an alternative route for Australians travelling to Europe. It now flies twice daily to Sydney, 10 times a week to Melbourne, three times a week to Perth and four times a week to Brisbane.
