China is investing CNY30 billion (US$4.5 billion) to extend its national road network. Xinhua reported the country’s Transport Ministry as saying that China’s rural road network will be extended to 3.9 million kilometres by 2015. Existing roads and bridges will also be upgraded in an effort to provide access to all townships and 90% of villages in five years’ time. The programme will mark an additional 450,000km of roads.
