Chinese airlines will triple their fleet sizes over the next 20 years, according to aircraft manufacturing giant Boeing.
The company, projects it built around 5,580 new aircraft for Chinese carriers over the next two decades, with a total value of around US$780 billion.
“Thanks to strong economic growth and increased access to air travel, we project China traffic to grow at nearly 7% each year,” said Randy Tinseth, vice president of Marketing, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “China is a key market for Boeing. Our current and future products will allow our customers to meet the growing demand with the most efficient airplanes.”
Key trends the company hopes to capitalise on is the increasing amount of air travel being done with China and Asia itself – precipitating a need for single aisle aircraft as the region becomes the strongest economy in the world.
The segment alone constitutes 3,900 of the total deliveries running to 2032.

Long-haul travel will not be left behind however, with an annual forecasted growth rate of 7.2%, with 1,440 wide-bodied fuel-efficient aircraft currently within the production cycle.
“To compete in the long-haul international market, our Chinese customers are focused on growing their international networks, increasing their capacity and building resources,” said Tinseth. “These trends will shape market demand for airplanes that have high efficiency, low operating costs, environmentally progressive technologies and a great passenger experience. We believe Boeing’s current and future widebody families are perfectly aligned to meet those needs.”
