A wealthy neighbourhood in China’s Zhejiang province is building a new ‘Great Wall’ to keep their village safe. The China Daily reported that the 270 residents in the village of Aodi have constructed a huge, 70cm-thick perimeter wall around their homes, and reduced the number of gated entrances from 10 to just one, which houses a seven-metre high iron gate. The gate will be closed at 10pm, from which time only villagers with ID swipe cards will be permitted to enter. The funds for constructing the CNY500,000 (US$76,000) wall were raised by the villagers.
