Two of China’s largest airlines will expand their networks to Africa in the second half of 2015.
On 5 August, China Southern Airlines will launch three weekly flights to the Kenyan capital Nairobi, direct from its home base in Guangzhou. Flights will run every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, using an Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
Air China will also expand its African connections with the launch of flights to Johannesburg and Addis Ababa.
The new service from Beijing to South Africa’s largest city will start on 30 August, operating three times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays) using a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Then on 26 October, Air China will launch three weekly flights (Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays) to the Ethiopian capital, using an Airbus A330.
Traffic between China and Africa has surged in recent years, due to China’s rising economic influence on the continent and a series of new bilateral air agreements between China and African countries.
