China’s largest planemaker, AVIC, has signed a deal with US-based Hamilton Sundstrand to set up a joint venture to produce power systems for the COMAC C919, China’s homemade passenger plane. The joint venture company, to be based in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, is expected to start production later this year. The single-aisle C919, which is expected to compete with Boeing’s 737 and the Airbus A320, is expected to make its first flight in 2014, with deliveries starting in 2016.
