A new monument will be erected in east China’s Jiangsu province to commemorate the country’s famous maritime navigator, Zheng He, who sailed to destinations in the South Pacific, Indian Ocean, Persian Gulf and Africa in the 15th Century. Xinhua reported that the new tower will stand on the site of the former dockyard where Zheng’s ship was built more than 600 years ago. Also under construction is a replica of the ship, which will retrace Zheng’s maritime routes in 2014.
