The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has withdrawn prime time slots for three domestic airlines at Delhi
airport.
The move comes after these domestic airlines not adhering to norms for operating flights during foggy conditions. Six landing slots at Delhi – two each of IndiGo, GoAir and Jet Airways were withdrawn after an equal number of flights of these airlines were diverted due to heavy fog since Wednesday evening till early hours of Thursday.
The slots withdrawn by the DGCA will remain cancelled till the airlines agree to operate the flights with CAT III compliant aircraft and pilots. “On 29 January, visibility at IGI airport, Delhi started dropping after 1730 hours whereas RVR (Runway Visibility Range) started dropping after 2030 hours,” the DGCA said in a official statement.
“This trend was brought to the notice of all the airlines. DGCA has been in continuous touch with airlines to ensure deployment of Cat III compliant aircraft and Cat III trained crew during the fog period. However, in spite of repeated efforts in this regard, two flights each of Jet Airways, GoAir and IndiGo were diverted from Delhi to Jaipur.”
