The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) has relaxed its travel advice for Egypt, opening up travel to the country again.
The relaxation means British holidaymakers can return to destinations such as Aswan, Alexandria and Luxor.
However the FCO has still advised that tourists avoid Cairo, the Giza Pyramids and other areas of the country, as well as the Sinai peninsula excluding the Red Sea resorts.
“Our travel advice for Egypt has now changed in line with the reduction in the level of violence,” the FCO said in a statement. “We continue to urge British Nationals already in Egypt to follow the instructions of the local authorities and obey curfews where they are in place. There remains a high threat from terrorism throughout Egypt. This has not changed.”
Egypt’s tourism was seriously hit when the FCO advised against travel to the country in July, prompted by violence during the overthrow of Mohamed Morsi.
