Thailand’s Pattaya Beach is in danger of disappearing, local media reported an academic as warning yesterday. The popular tourist hub on Thailand’s eastern seaboard now has a shoreline only four or five metres deep, compared to more than 35m in 1952 and 18m in 2002, The Nation reported Professor Thanawat Jarupongsakul of Chulalongkorn University as saying at a meeting to discuss the development of the beach.
“If we don’t do something, Pattaya Beach will likely vanish within five years,” Professor Thanawat warned.
Plans are now being drawn up to refill the beach, using up to 200,000m
