Etihad Airways implemented a new state-of-the-art baggage handling system this week, aimed at reducing incidences of mishandled baggage.
The airline has selected Luggage Logistics’ Baggage Management System (BMS), which integrates with Etihad’s flight schedules, passenger information and departure control systems. This, according to Etihad, will increase the speed with which bags can be identified and transferred from the aircraft to the airport and onto connecting flights.
The majority of misplaced baggage incidents occur when bags are being transferred from one aircraft to another.
“The partnership with Luggage Logistics will greatly improve the identification, management and transfer control of guest baggage across our global airport network including at our Abu Dhabi base,” said Geert W. Boven, Etihad’s senior vice president of airport services.
“The new baggage management solution will enhance the guest experience by reducing lost or misplaced luggage, minimise delays commonly associated with baggage management, while optimising our flight operations.”
Etihad added that the new BMS solution can be “seamlessly integrated” with other airlines’ systems.
