Tourism Australia has launched a new promotion with Etihad Airways and Virgin Australia to promote travel from Germany to Australia.
The new programme, which is an extension of the MoU signed between the three organisations in 2012, will use tourism Australia’s ‘There’s Nothing Like Australia’ campaign and a dedicated website, australia.com/australien-erleben, to entice German travellers to the country. Etihad said it would promote “some of the lowest and best value return fares we’ve ever offered to Australia”.
“We are starting to see the benefits of the strategic marketing agreements we signed late last year with Etihad Airways and its alliance partner, Virgin Australia,” said Tourism Australia’s managing director, Andrew McEvoy. “The strength of this partnership lies in combining the two airlines’ extensive networks and marketing spend under the banner of our successful ‘There’s nothing like Australia’ campaign.
“Australia still retains strong appeal amongst German travellers and what this campaign does well is to offer such competitive international air fares with the bonus of two domestic flights. We know from our research that German visitors are adventurous and love to explore, and this promotion offers a great and very affordable opportunity to do that,” he added.
The fares include two internal flights within Australia, provided by Virgin Australia, bookable from four German cities – Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin – on an Etihad Airways ticket.
Germany is Australia’s 11th largest inbound market for visitor arrivals, with 154,800 visitors in 2012 spending AU$900 million (US$864m). But Tourism Australia expects this to rise to as much as AU$2.3 billion by 2020.
