Expedia has hired architecture firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson (BCJ) to design its new 16-hectare waterfront headquarters in Seattle.
Expedia plans to relocate to the new site in 2018, and it has tasked BCJ with creating an “elegant, innovative and responsive” design for its workforce. BCJ was previous employed by Steve Jobs to design Pixar’s corporate headquarters in 1999.
“Plans for the iconic campus are still being developed, but our vision is for an innovative balance of new and existing buildings that reflects the spirit of Expedia, as well as the natural beauty of Seattle and the Pacific Northwest,” said Peter Bohlin, founding principal of BCJ.
Expedia will move to Seattle from its current home in nearby Bellevue. The new US$228.9 million HQ will form part of a billion-dollar redevelopment of the Seattle’s Elliott Bay waterfront, next to Seattle Art Museum’s outdoor sculpture park.
The company said its new campus would include “outdoor recreational areas, onsite dining options and a state-of-the-art fitness facility”.
And in anticipation of the move, the online travel company has created a new website, meetexpedia.com, to allow the local community to learn more about their new neighbours.
