Expedia.com has unveiled a new homepage that represents its most significant online redesign since 2002.
Intended to offer a simpler layout, the new web design brings the company’s search interface into greater focus, accompanied by a greater use of travel imagery.
The new homepage is designed for both desktops and mobile devices, and Expedia claims it will load pages nearly twice as fast as before. The navigation has also been streamlined, with more one-click access and recommendations based on previous search activity.
“When it comes to travel destinations, it’s fair to say our homepage is a pretty powerful one. So we tested a myriad of variants of the homepage to optimise interactions across different devices,” said Michael Gulmann, Expedia’s vice president of global product.
“In testing labs, we watched users get excited about the clean, consistent experience for planning their next trip. It became clear that the nuances we care so much about – search wizard interaction, images, font size, etc – are the keys to providing a positive booking experience, regardless of device. The new homepage represents a major step towards satisfying the ever-changing needs of our customers.”
The new homepage design is now available in the US with the global roll-out due to follow later this year.
