The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) has warned UK travellers to take extra care on New Zealand’s roads during the Rugby World Cup due to its road crash fatality record. The country has twice the number of road accident deaths per 100,000 people as the UK and the FCO has told fans to ‘Be on the Ball’ while travelling in the country. “Whether fans are planning on taking part in adrenalin sports or hiring a vehicle for a road trip, I strongly recommend that they check the small print of their travel insurance to ensure they are covered for everything they want to do,” said Jeremy Browne, minister of consular affairs. “And people driving long distances should plan their journey carefully, including regular breaks, to avoid accidents”. The FCO is working with rugby unions, travel companies, airports and other partners to spread the message.
