Capital Airlines, the Chinese carrier owned by the HNA Group, is planning to expand its European operations with the launch of services to Lisbon.
The airline has filed an application with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) to operate twice weekly flights to the Portuguese capital from Hangzhou, in eastern China’s Zhejiang province, via Beijing.
If approved, the new route will launch on December 2016, becoming mainland China’s first ever direct connection to Portugal.
Capital Airlines will deploy a 211-seat Airbus A330 aircraft on the route, with 33 seats in business class and 178 in economy.
The Beijing-based carrier already operates scheduled flights to Copenhagen and Madrid, and is also planning to fly to the UK’s second largest city, Birmingham.
