Garuda Indonesia has signed an agreement that will see it offer new connections to Myanmar.
A new codeshare will see Garuda place its ‘GA’ flight code on with Myanmar Airways International’s (MAI) flights to Yangon from both Bangkok and Singapore. In tandem, MAI will place its ‘8M’ code on Garuda’s flights from Jakarta to both Bangkok and Singapore, offering one-stop connections between Yangon and Jakarta for the passengers of both airlines.
“We are pleased to announce this partnership with Myanmar Airways International which extends our network even further within the Southeast Asia” said Garuda’s executive vice president of sales & marketing, Erik Meijer.
“Myanmar is an important market for Indonesia and through this partnership we can offer more travel options for the increasing number of passengers travelling between the two countries. At the same time, the agreement is expected to boost trade and tourism activities by making Indonesia much more accessible for Myanmar visitors,” he added.
MAI’s managing director, Si Thu, also welcomed the move, saying it would offer “greater flexibility and convenience” for passengers”.
The codeshare arrangement is still subject to final government approvals, but is expected to come into force in December 2014.
