Garuda Indonesia has signed an agreement to become the Official Airline of the 26th SEA Games, being held in Palembang later this year. The airline’s President & CEO, Emirsyah Satar, signed the deal this week with the Chairman of event’s organising committee, Rita Subowo. Indonesia’s Minister of Youth & Sports, Andi Malarangeng, was also present at the signing which took place at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The cooperation covers several aspects, including transportation support for athletes and officials, a joint campaign to increase public awareness of the games, as well as brand-building and other marketing programmes. Palembang, in the Indonesian province of South Sumatra, will be the official host city of the 2011 SEA Games, although several events will also be held in Jakarta.
