Garuda Indonesia will reduce the frequency of flights on its Japan routes, following a major dip in load factors in the wake of the 11 March disasters. The airline’s President & CEO, Emirsyah Satar, told local news portal, Bisnis.com that passenger load factor on Japanese routes had slumped to around 50%. As a result, the airline’s Tokyo-Jakarta flights will be halved from twice daily to daily, while the airline’s Osaka and Nagoya services are also under review. The spare aircraft will instead be deployed on routes to the Middle East, including Jeddah, Satar said.
